Somerset v WGC at the Mendip GC
Monday 27th July
Match Secretary, Gerry Stack
Thank you to Somerset for great pictures and report
Skipper David Andow and Martin Wilkins were matched against Geoff Titt and Phil Hodges of Wiltshire. This was a case of local knowledge being key and the home Captain, Martin Wilkins provided the edge for SGC which led to a win 2/1
Match TWO
Match ONE
Derek Sutton and Philip Lock were out second taking on Ernie Kee and Dave Pallas of Wiltshire. It seems the trees were kinder to Somerset than Wiltshire leading to another SGC win, by 5/4
Match THREE
The next SGC pair were Bob Pritchard and John Scott and they were the only losers of the day for SGC, going down 3/2 to Jim Murdock and Andy Cook of Wiltshire
Match FOUR
Out at Four, Tim Nicholls and SGU Secretary Nigel Long ( called Norman for the day!) took on Robin Kingston and Ron East of Wiltshire. It was actually "Norman's" first outing for SGC and he played very well, as the SGC pair won 4/3
Match FIVE
Alan Pickstone and Terry Russell were next on the tee for SGC and with a local Captain in the team came home winners 1 up against Paul McLaughlin and Rich Callow.
Match SIX
Malcolm LLoyd and ever green Ben Gliddon also had a 1 up win against Stuart Knight and Andy Norris of Wiltshire
Match SEVEN
The penultimate SGC pairing of Graham Load and Mike Stringer managed to carry on the winning streak of the day and came home winning 5/4 over the Wiltshire pair of big hitting John Legister and Harry Hassell of Wiltshire.
Match EIGHT
The final pair of Norman Banfield and Adrian Lawrence for SGC finished the day off in royal style for Somerset winning 3/1 against Stuart Bridgwater and Gerry Stack.
The match report is fulsome in the praise of the players for the company and enjoyment of the day -
