WGC v SW Secretaries

Report from Geoff Titt

Our match against the South West Secretaries took place at Shirehampton Park Golf Club on 16th May. The South West Secretaries choice of venue was clearly picked  to test out physical fitness as well as our golfing skills as Shirehampton is a somewhat undulating course. Following the customary lunch of sandwiches and chips and the announcement of match pairings our Captain Tony lead us off at 1:00 pm.

The weather was kind, no rain, although there was one heavy clap of thunder late in the afternoon and the course was presented in good condition.

The Wiltshire team once again performed well, Captain Tony and his partner Paul Dimond setting the pace with a solid 4&3 win. The next 6 matches were all close and with one match remaining on the course the score stood at three and a half games each. We had no need to worry as Alan Kerr and Ian Pearson stormed home with a magnificent 5&3 win.

In his speech after dinner, after thanking the SW Secretaries for their friendship and hospitality, Tony very modestly reported our match record to date stood at 3 win out of  3.

Well done.
