Spring Meeting 2013

Marlborough G.C.

The Spring meeting was held this year at Marlborough the home club of our WGC Captain Tony Leach.

The weather was mild and dry but a little bit windy which probably explains why the average score was in the low 30’s. There were 97 players and together with our non playing captain made 98 for dinner which was well received by our members thanks go to the kitchen staff at Marlborough Golf Club.

The six guests were from Somerset, Dorset and Oxford who took part in their own competition which was won by Stuart Gibbs the Oxford President.

The winner of the main competition was Philip Harris from West Wilts with a creditable score on the day of 39 points, he was presented with the Bob Stacey Memorial Trophy a Cut Glass Fruit Bowl and a dozen Golf Balls by captain Tony Leach.

Second was Graham Sharpe from High Post on count back winning 6 golf balls third with the same 38 points was Guy Piercy from Marlborough who won 3 golf balls.

The best first nine was won by Neal Young from Erlestoke with 20 points the best back nine was won by Paul Ford from South Wilts.

The Marlborough Captain Bryan Arthur donated a bottle of whiskey to be won by the player who got closest to the pin with his drive on the Fifth hole which was won by Mike Venner who being a teetotaller auctioned it for twenty Pounds the money going to the Marlborough captains charity which together with the donations from the rest of the players totalled £150 for the Air Ambulance.
