After an excellent lunch, Tony led the field on a day of clear blue skies with a temperature reaching over 70°F and a very light wind.  The course was in excellent condition and full marks to the Green Keeping staff.  

As can be expected with these matches they were all hotly contested.  After match six WGC managed to get in front by 2 games, the last two matches providing a win and one loss giving WGC an overall victory 5 – 3.  After the usual post match drinks and banter we sat down to a very good two course dinner, followed by coffee and mints.  

As this was the inaugural event, a new trophy was presented called the Whant Davies trophy.  The presentation was made by Bryan Davies to the captain Tony Leach, after which Tony gave a short speech including an excruciating joke and concluded by thanking all the staff of North Wilts GC for making this a memorable day.

Historic Note:

Until this year S&H had always played against a team from Marlborough GC, instituted over twenty years ago by Syd Whant (MGC) and Bryan Davies (S&H).  As WGC lost the match against Wessex Secs from our calendar in 2012, an arrangement was made by the Secretaries for the S&H match to be substituted and the inaugural match to take place this year 2013.  Hence giving rise to the Whant Davies trophy.
