Match Report courtesy of David J Dunbar

An honourable three each halved match was the result of our annual match against Wessex Secretaries, however with a little good fortune we might have prevailed as five – one victors.

Captain Tom praised his partner Terry Broom, for his excellent performance, however the result of their match was a loss by one down, losing out to a birdie putt on the last green. Next match in was a resounding five and four victory by Neil Patch and Laird Dunbar who managed to defeat opponents playing off extremely low handicaps of one and four respectively.

This was followed by a fine win of four and three by the Ogbourne pairing of Alan Edwards and Denis Fraser. Stuart Newton and Barry Nunn were next home, unfortunately losing out by six and five to  a fine Wessex pairing. Dave Hiscock and Alastair Ross lost narrowly by one down  in the penultimate match and a fine four and three victory by Stuart Shewry and Ian Pearson, concluded the match and ensured that Captain Tom is still able to claim that Wiltshire are thus far undefeated.

It must be said that the Moors Valley course was in excellent condition, and playing from the white tees was a test for the best. The author’s opposition, both single figure golfers, were also playing the course for the first time and were extremely complimentary regarding the layout and condition of the course.

Congratulations must go to all players from both sides in managing to shower and change in a changing room where even superman would have struggled. However on the positive side the quite small clubhouse provided an excellent service of Bacon Rolls on arrival and a fine golfer’s supper of Steak Pie with chips followed by Apple Crumble and Custard. We also stayed dry and without doubt had another enjoyable social day.
