Spring Meeting 2012

 at

Salisbury & South Wilts G.C.

Report Gratefully Supplied by Brian Watts

The Spring Meeting was held this year at Salisbury and South Wilts Golf Club where our Captain Tom Sherry is a member. A large field of 111 players included two visitors from Oxford, two from Somerset and two from Dorset.

The weather was windy with intermittent sunny and showery periods but not wet enough to spoil the enjoyment for the players. South Wilts course was well presented, the greens being quite quick surprising some of the competitors.

The playing time was a little over four hours which was quite reasonable and bones well for our Anniversary meeting in August when we have limited the total number of players to 120. The buffet style evening meal was very successful, players were called into the dining area in the order they played causing the minimum of delay.

Scores on the whole were low the average being 30.5 no doubt partially due to the windy conditions.

The winner of the best score on the first nine was Ian Wood from Cumberwell with a points score of 20.

The second nine winner after a count back was John Symons from Marlborough with a points score of 21.

Third overall after count back with a score of 38pts was Alistair Ross from South Wilts.

Second overall with the same score of 38pts was David Ruffett from Erlestoke.

The winner of the Bob Stacey memorial Trophy with a score of 39pts was Trevor Samuels from West Wilts.

The best visitor was Roy Parmiter The Somerset Captain with 31pts.

Nearest the pin on the eighteenth hole was won by John Symons from Marlborough his ball ended up 7’ 4” from the hole.

John won a bottle of Whiskey and £109 was raised for The South Wilts Captain Eric Lewis’s charity.

Captain Tom Sherry welcomed our visitors and members. He reminded everyone of the Anniversary meeting on 16th August which is to be held at the Salisbury and South Wilts Golf Club and hoped to see as many as possible there to celebrate 50 years of the Wiltshire Golf Captains’ association.
