Despite the difficult conditions the spirit of camaraderie and goodwill that is a feature of Captains’ matches was ever present.
The match was held on a blustery cool day, but fortunately no rain.
The course was suffering from the extremely wet winter and a period of neglect, and was not in a good condition despite the extensive remedial work being carried out by the new owners.
The greens were particularly poor as they had been heavily hollow tined and had not had sufficient warm weather to induce any growth. The Wiltshire team coped better with the bumpy greens and emerged winners by 5.5 to 2.5. The individual scores were:
