WGC v Berkshire

Match report from Bob Channon

On the first day of real summer, the scene was set at Upavon for a memorable days golf.

The course was in great condition, Berkshire men arrived smartly dressed in Blazer to enjoy some early banter in anticipation of reversing the last years result with us. by contrast the Wiltshire boys drifted in casually later, and for the first time in my experience, the original team selected in the Spring with the only one exception.

Sadly Syd Whant who injured his back one day before had to pull out, but thanks go to John Hawley for stepping in at very short notice.

Light lunch was taken before play and the day continued extremely well with 5 of the matches very closely fought, but the result was much the same as last year with Wiltshire getting the win.

However, most importantly all enjoyed the golf, the often hilarious banter, the hospitality offered and Berkshire, I have to say, are one of the friendliest Counties we play.
