Wiltshire Captains versus Somerset Captains

At Long Sutton Golf Club

Tuesday 25th July 2017

The selected team travelled to the Somerset levels and met at the delightful Long Sutton GC.

The team came together fairly well with only one withdrawal due to a Hospital appointment.

We had a lovely day with the match being played in bright sunshine on what was a pleasant warm afternoon.

After a lovely lunch the pairings were announced and we proceeded to prepare ourselves for our appointed tee times

The match was played in a fantastic spirit with much banter and laughter had by all.

As results came in things were looking good for the Wiltshire team with three and a half points from the first five matches. However Somerset had clearly loaded the tail that wagged significantly, match six and seven went to Somerset by substantial scores, not wishing to embarrass anyone but suffice it to say a dog license was mentioned on more than one occasion.

With the score standing at three and a half points each it all came down to the last match, thankfully that match was halved so it was honours even at four points apiece.

Following the match we all sat down to a wonderful evening meal and after dinner proceedings were presided over by Jim Scott the Somerset Captain and our own David Ruffett  and after the usual pleasantries we all departed for home content and well fed.
