Who could have asked for better weather? On a glorious summer’s day, with the most welcome ‘Ogbourne Breeze’ to prevent sunstroke, Captain Steve Griffiths led his team to a sparkling 5-1/2 – 2- 1/2 victory.

After a light lunch, our Starter Tom Whittaker, sent the first match containing Captain Steve accompanied by the Ogbourne Captain Geoff Sparrow off, and they duly obliged with an opening victory.

The beautiful weather obviously suited the Wilts players as by the time that the fifth match was completed our victory was already assured, with four wins and a very honourable half. A further victory was also secured by the youngsters Brian Daniel and Norman Denman, with a pair of consolation wins to Somerset. We even had a low level fly-past of RAF Hercules, specially arranged – of course.

A fine 3 course dinner, enhanced by a glass or two of Riocca was then enjoyed, with the usual camaraderie and good conversation with our friends from Somerset. The golf course and catering earned high praise from both teams a most enjoyable experience.
