Wiltshire Captains versus SW Secretaries

At Tidworth Golf Club

It was with great pleasure that we welcomed the SW Secs stand in Captain, Bob Clark and his much travelled team to Tidworth Garrison Golf Club.  Some of his team spent well over two and a half hours, driving to Tidworth.  After lunch and the initial introductions, our Captain for the day David Ruffett, welcomed both teams and the pairings were announced. Well, nearly all of them.  Bill Lawrance, in the absence of a partner, walked alone.  

The course was in good shape and the greens played well and overall it was a good match. As the results trickled in, we were informed that lonesome Bill was dormy 3 down.  Bob Clark was quietly content with that news.

In reality, Bill in his own words, then discovered how to putt and forced a Half.  The overall match ended in a draw, so Bill’s result was even more special.  So a big thank you to Bill, who incidentally was drafted in as a replacement at very short notice.  

We were well looked after by all the staff at the club and were treated to a first class, after match dinner.  David Ruffett then thanked everyone for attending and wished the visitors a safe and speedy journey home.

A satisfying end, to a very pleasant day.
