WGC v Oxford at Erlestoke G.C.

Match Report

No-one ever said being a match secretary would be dull. After lining up the team before hand, the anticipated domino effect of dropout happened, but the listed reserves stood up to the plate and a team was formed.

On the day, a no-show meant that David Ward, who had been spotted teeing off before lunch, was recovered from the course and pushed into the line-up.

The weather for the week preceding the match had been full of very heavy rain showers, so it was good to see a dry day to welcome our guests from Oxfordshire.

The matches started to come in with some big wins on either side which eventually resulted in a very amicable drawn match between the teams – 4 points each.

Just to add to the “excitement”, a power cut took out the clubhouse (and village) power for 30 minutes during which all sorts of contingency plans were being worked through!! No beer could be served!

Thanks to all who supported, especially to David Ward for coming to the rescue!
