March v Berkshire

My thanks to Bill Lawrance for the wonderful pictures and Report.

July 21st saw WGCs play at the historic Temple Golf Club.

Set in prime Berkshire real estate the club is famous for being the home club of Sir Henry Cotton and also for being owned by the Oppenheimer family - evidenced by the honour boards in the club.

The name Temple reflects the history of the land having once been a seat of the Knight Templar.

The course was in great condition and played well as long as one kept their golf ball on the fairways. Off the fairways was a considerable amount of hay which proved very difficult to get out of. The hay also contributed to the WGCs donating a considerable number of golf balls to Temple Golf Club.

Luckily it wasn't just our side which found it difficult and we managed to win the match 5.5 to 2.5.

Dinner was served overlooking the course and was well received by all.

Captain John duly thanked all and sundry and I would join him in his thanks to Temple Golf Club and the Berkshire GCs for a splendid day out.
