6 Counties Match at Saunton Sands G.C.

On Thursday, 9th April 2015 Captains and Past Captains representing Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire arrived at Saunton for the annual West of England Counties Championship.

Each County was represented by a team of twenty four players divided into six pairs on each of the East and West courses for a betterball stableford event and, as expected, everyone clearly enjoyed the perfect weather conditions.

While scoring was predictably high the formidable Devon team made it four wins in a row with clear daylight between them and Wiltshire in second place. The scramble for places produced a tight finish with only eleven points separating the other five counties.

Comments from Brian Watts and Our Captain Bill Hartley

Brian - “Although we did not win coming second is quite an achievement and should be recognised as such.”

Bill - “May  I also ask that you add to the report my personal congratulations to our team on

a very fine team effort by one and all. Hopefully we can go one better in the Saunton Salver later this year.”
